From Professor to President (and Still Professor)

In this podcast episode Edward Burger, President of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, joined us for a second time. Dr. Burger originally spoke with us, prior to becoming a University president, in September of 2012 to talk about his book “The 5 Elements of Effective Thinking.”  In February of 2013 he became the 15th president of Southwestern University.

In this episode he talks with us about his new role as a university president, his vision for students, and the role that on-campus housing plays on his campus.

A New York native, President Burger graduated summa cum laude in mathematics from Connecticut College and earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to his current position, he was the Francis Christopher Oakley Third Century Professor of Mathematics at Williams College, where he served from 1990 to 2013, as well as the former vice-provost at Baylor University. President Burger is also prolific author and noted scholar, having authored or co-authored more than 35 research articles, as well as 12 books.
