Location: Lumina Communities at Duquesne University

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Salary: $15.00-$17.00 per hour. Competitive benefits package

Summary

The Custodian will collaborate with the overall Facilities Staff to upkeep, maintain, and clean an apartment complex (1045 Forbes Ave. Hall) serving roughly 550 upper-class and graduate students at Duquesne University.  The ideal candidate for this position will project a customer focused and professional image through interaction with all internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming of hallways, stairwells, office spaces, and other common areas.
  • Clean around main trash pick-up area and keeps area free from debris and loose trash.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe common area and office furniture on regular rotation.
  • Maintain all common areas, including collecting and disposing of loose trash.
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows, door panels, and sills.
  • Use and maintain assigned equipment: floor scrubber, dry carpet extractor, pressure washer, vacuums, brooms, mops, squeegees, etc.
  • Follow instructions and safety procedures regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
  • Move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools.
  • Launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
  • Attend to emergencies when necessary.
  • During summer months, assisting in preparing the student rooms for move-in.  This includes extensive deep cleaning of bedrooms, kitchens, furnishings, and bathrooms.
  • As needed, provide temporary custodial support for Brottier Hall and/or St. Martin Hall (additional apartment complexes also on the campus of Duquesne University)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Hours:
Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

Education/Experience/Skills Required:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least 1 year of experience in working within a janitorial and/or custodial position which required general cleaning skills.
    • Demonstrated experience in student housing or multifamily housing is desired.
  • Must have troubleshooting and communication skills. 
  • Must be a team player, we all must work together as we strive to provide the best service possible for our customers. 
  • Must have personal initiative when seeing a need for cleaning within the community.
